Orcas are also known as killer whales and are actually part of the dolphin
family. The animals are easy to differentiate from other whales thanks
to their distinctive colouring: While the skin on their back is
pitch-black, their bellies are a bright white, as you can see on the baby orca (called a "calf") from Schleich® Wild Life. After just a few months the
calves start hunting for their own fish, marine mammals and sea birds.
Fun Fact
At birth the belly of an orca calf is initially cream or apricot coloured.
